Grades 3,4 and 5 (4 weeks)

Duration : 55 mins/week

This short 4-week fun course teaches you basic video editing skills by using iMovie.

This course is geared towards beginners and students with no previous video editing knowledge.

Students will learn all the necessary skills required to create a video with special effects and transitions that can effectively engage their audience on their website or youtube channel.

My hands-on expertise comes from numerous videos created for my interactive online science curriculum, for my marketing content, and for my science video stories.

We meet once a week for 55 min live lessons

Each student will be required to have access to iMovie software on their Apple device which is logged in with a parent user account.

First, we will start by understanding the overall layout of the iMovie software and its various features.

Next, we will start collecting and/or creating media artifacts for our video. These could be photos, clip arts, or videos created by students using tools listed in this lesson or use existing media found on copyright-free websites like Unsplash.com.

Tools used to build the above artifacts can be canva.com, apple keynote, and Apple QuickTime player. Students can always choose to use another tool they are already comfortable with.

Next students will work on a script for the voiceover of their video. Once the script is final they will record their voiceover and include it into the iMovie.

Finally, we will work on bringing it all together -the visuals, the voiceover, and optionally background music ( from a copyright-free youtube library) This is also the time when we will add many special effects and transitions, these include the Ken Burns effect, PIP effect, green screen effect for virtual backgrounds and animation effects using Keynote ( Logos or pictures appearing on the screen as you speak).

Students can choose to share their final video with their class and get inspired by each other's creativity.

I have had so much fun over the years creating videos. It allows me to tell my story and my ideas in a style that's the most authentic to me and in a format easily understood by everyone. I hope to create the same fun and engaging experience for every student in my class.

Let's have fun while being creative.
